Parcours Céramique Carougeois 2022

International Biennial of Contemporary Ceramics

By postponing its 17th edition by one year, the Parcours Céramique Carougeois has chosen to create a synergy with the 50th IAC Congress around the subject Materia Prima – Ceramics, an Alchemical Art.
Indeed, ceramics is often referred to as an alchemical discipline. Alchemy and ceramics both share the practice of materials refinement and their transformation, leading to the birth to new materiality. But not only that; for those who practice them they also entail a pursuit – the quest for the Absolute, elevation and eternity.

At a time where the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has still not entirely been put behind us, the subject of alchemy affords us the opportunity to revisit this two-year void from the perspective of the present. Indeed, these past two years have transformed us and arguably granted us the chance to re-engage with matters relating to life and death, as shown in the artwork of Aline Morvan, which will be exhibited at Halles de la Fonderie and used in an original performance. Just like alchemy, the ancient art of ceramics has the ability to fuse the material and the spiritual.

The numerous exhibitions, conferences and ceramics demonstrations will praise telluric energy, living organisms, colours and transformations, as implemented in the clay and glaze works.

Throughout the nine days of events, the Parcours Céramique Carougeois intends to reaffirm the warmth and universal character of ceramics.
