Sculpture. Sign. Colour. The golden age of Petra Weiss
Petra Weiss (born 1947) lives in Ticino. Since 1965, her career as a sculptor has left its mark on the Swiss and international scene. She trained with the great ceramists Antoine de Vinck in Brussels and Jean-Claude de Crousaz in Bernex/Geneva, before joining Carlo Zauli’s studio in Faenza, where she worked for four years.
Fluidity and the classical Mediterranean ideal are the foundations of her solar and refined art: an abstract symbiosis of graphic signs and colours, a search for elevation and movement in and with the material, like a dance.
She has exhibited in many European countries, as well as in China, Japan and the United States. A number of anthologies with catalogues have been milestones in this prolific life: in 2003, at the Museo Vela in Ligornetto, then at the Musée Ariana in Geneva, and in 2015 in Siena.
The exhibition at Galerie Latham brings together some forty sculptures from different periods, large and small for-mats in stoneware, terracotta, marble, metal and wood, as well as a series of works on paper.
